BGPAA Police Department

NOTE: The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority Police Department is NOT accepting applications from entry-level Police Officer candidates at this time.

The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority Police Department is seeking qualified community service minded people to serve as fully empowered Police Officers (under the authority of Penal Code 830.33), in a general law enforcement capacity. Typical duties include uniformed patrol, traffic, crowd control, fixed check point positions, roving foot, bicycle and T-3 patrol, anti-terrorism, airport/aviation related security and other police duties as required. Officers currently work 4-10 hour shifts and provide 24 hour law enforcement coverage at the airport.

Minimum Requirements: Eligible applicants must be at least 21 years of age, a United States citizen, possess a U.S. High School Diploma or GED, be free of Felony convictions, and possess a valid California driver’s license.

Lateral Transfer

In addition to meeting the Minimum Requirements, a Lateral Transfer applicant must possess a California POST Certificate and be currently employed full-time as a sworn law enforcement officer with a qualifying California agency. (Note to lateral candidates: the Airport Police Department is not currently affiliated with the CalPERS or any other State retirement system.)

POST Certified Retired Officers

In addition to meeting the Minimum Requirements, retired California Police Officers with a break of 3 years or less in service are encouraged to apply. Retired officers with a break in service longer than 3 years will be required to complete the POST 136-hour Requalification Course prior to appointment as an Airport Police Officer.

A Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) retirement is not currently affected by employment with this agency.  There are a limited number of “Job-Share” (20-30 hours per week) positions available.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary for a full-time Airport Police Officer ranges from $82,470 to $92,767 per year, depending upon qualifications. Officers receive additional compensation for possession of a POST, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory, or Management Certificate, as well as paid time off, overtime pay, and training pay.

The Airport Authority offers a liberal benefits package that includes, but is not limited to: (HMO) Major Medical, vision and dental insurance, company paid LTD, AD&D, and 457(b) / 401(a) retirement savings plans. All uniforms and equipment are provided by the department.
