Southwest Airlines Converting Most of Hope Airport Fleet from Diesel and Gasoline-Powered to Electrified Equipment for Cleaner Air Five Years Ahead of Regional Goal
BURBANK, Calif., January 6, 2005 – The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority today inaugurated a $1.3 million system of 42 battery chargers for electric ground service equipment (eGSE) at all 14 airline gates at Bob Hope Airport.
Southwest Airlines, which offers nearly 70% of all airline flights at the airport, has signed an agreement to convert most of its ground service fleet to new pollution-free equipment that would use the chargers by the end of 2005, and the airline began to use some new equipment immediately following the charger installation.
