Four Persons Injured; Airport Operations Not Interrupted
BURBANK. Calif., August 29, 2008 — A Cessna 172 single-engine aircraft with three persons onboard crashed at the intersection of Clybourn Avenue and Valerio Street just west of Bob Hope Airport this evening while attempting to land at the airport. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. There was no disruption of service at the airport.
There were no fatalities involved, but all three occupants suffered injuries, one serious and the other two minor. The serious injury was reportedly to the pilot, and he was transported to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center. The other two occupants were taken to Holy Cross Hospital. One person on the ground suffered a minor injury.
The aircraft was reportedly on approach from the north to Runway 15, the north-to-south runway, when it reported fuel problems, turned west and hit a power line and landed upside down on an automobile at 3110 Clybourn Avenue.
Bob Hope Airport Fire Department, Burbank Fire Department and Los Angeles Police Department units responded to the scene of the accident.
