7 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2003 – Runway Reopened, Operations Normal

The Los Angeles Police Department cleared Burbank Airport for normal operations at 7 a.m. today, after determining that a truck parked nearby and linked by an anonymous tip with a threat of explosives was found to pose no threat.

Runway 15/33 — the north/south runway that had been closed in the early morning hours due to the incident — was opened immediately. Runway 8/26 — the east/west runway — remained open at all times.

A modest number of departures was delayed and arrivals appear to be running on time. The suspect truck was parked at the north end of the airport, and access to the passenger terminal was not affected by the incident.

Travelers with questions about their flight are advised to check with the individual airline. There is also a Flight Status link on the home page of this website, www.burbankairport.com, that allows up-to-the-minute check-ups on arriving and departing flights.

The Airport Authority has been informed by LAPD that an investigation of the anonymous tip to law enforcement agencies about the truck is underway. It appears the tip may be linked to a trucking labor dispute.
