Bob Hope Airport and Southwest Airlines Accelerate Timetable for Electrified Ground Equipment

Authority Agrees to Install Chargers; Southwest Agrees to Switch to Electric Equipment Five Years Earlier Than Planned in Bid for Cleaner Air

BURBANK, Calif., January 20, 2004 — The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority today adopted an agreement with Southwest Airlines in which the Authority will install electric charging units at all aircraft gates at Bob Hope Airport by the end of summer, clearing the way for Southwest to convert nearly all of its ground service equipment at the airport from diesel to electric-powered units by 2005.

Southwest carries nearly 70% of the annual passengers at Bob Hope Airport and operates two-thirds of all ground service equipment at the airport.
